Stratford Skatepark Fundraiser Moves Project Closer To Breaking Ground
Stratford, PE -The Stratford Skatepark Steering Committee remains excited about the planned breaking of ground this summer for the new Stratford Skatepark to be located next to Stratford Town Centre. The tender for the construction has closed and is anticipated to be awarded in mid-April with a target completion date of construction in the fall of this year.
The Town of Stratford has committed funds towards the project as well as providing the land required and ongoing maintenance once constructed. "We are eager to see this project come together after years of planning and development," said Stratford Mayor David Dunphy. "We hope the community will now come out and support this current phase of fundraising with a unique opportunity to leave a lasting impression."
Ongoing fundraising efforts are now focusing on developing the "Pathway of Support" Paver Stone Campaign. Residents, businesses and organizations are able to purchase an engraved commemorative paver stone which will be included in a pathway at the Stratford Skatepark.
"The commemorative paver stones will be on display for years to come around the site and are a great way to recognize a loved one, represent yourself or family, or show support from your business or organization," added Councillor and Recreation, Culture and Events Chair Gail MacDonald.
The "Pathway of Support" program officially kicks off this Saturday, April 7, 2018 from 10:00am to 2:00pm inside Stratford Town Centre. Volunteers will be on hand with the form required to reserve your commemorative paver stone and to take payments. Each stone is only $100. A link to the form can also be found at www.townofstratford.ca and can be completed in person during Town of Stratford office hours. Commemorative paver stones will be available for sale only until June 30, 2018.
A priority area for the Town of Stratford is to provide recreational opportunities for our youth within the Town. The Stratford Skatepark will be a multi-use skatepark with features for skateboarding, in-line skating, and BMX biking as identified as priorities by the youth in Stratford for a number of years. Landscaping features are also planned to ensure the park blends in nicely with the surroundings. Skateboarding provides a low cost opportunity for young people to explore unstructured recreational activity.
