At a special presentation held on April 15, 2026, the Town of Stratford received the 2025 Murray Pinchuk Community Builder Award from the Prince Edward Island Institute of Professional Planners. The award, presented annually, honours the contributions of the late Murray Pinchuk to professional planning practice on Prince Edward Island. Mr. Pinchuk worked with the City of Summerside for many years and actively contributed to and promoted planning on Prince Edward Island. The award is presented to an individual, group or organization that has demonstrated an extraordinary commitment to making their Prince Edward Island community a better place today and for the future, in a way that touches on either the built or natural environment.
The Town of Stratford continues to use the Shape Stratford platform as both an educational and resource tool as well as the primary location to find information on large planning and development projects requiring community engagement such as the current Official Plan review. With activities for the general public including a Planning 101 mini-course which explains what planning is, why we plan, how planning works and how plans are applied from a municipal perspective; to interactive activities including “Shape the Future”, a zoning map model, and a “Build Your Town” opportunity, both using modelling and simulations to help users understand and appreciate the complexity of the choices made on the future; and a variety of other content, material and data, the Shape Stratford platform provides a wide variety of information to interested users.
The Shape Stratford project was funded through a Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) program called Housing Supply Challenge (HSC) in round two which had a funding objective ‘To create implementable, local solutions that improve pre-development of housing that is affordable”. The project was designed to able to replicated by other jurisdictions and is now available for this use with associated fees covering off the rebranding and updating of the project platform for any new user.
