Media Release: Annual Stratford Remembrance Day Service
Posted on 11/06/2018

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Tuesday, November 6, 2018

The Town of Stratford once again invites Stratford residents, family, friends, and visitors to participate in honouring our Veterans at the 13th Annual Stratford Remembrance Day Ceremony to be held on Sunday, November 11th beginning at 10:45 a.m. at the Stratford Town Centre.

"Our annual Remembrance Day service remains one of our most attended events each year," stated Mayor David Dunphy. "The high number of attendees indicates the level of respect that residents have for those who put their lives on the line for our great country. It is wonderful to see the range of ages in attendance and we invite everyone to join us once again this year."

Prior to our Remembrance Day Ceremony residents are encouraged to get to know some of Stratford's very own veterans by visiting our Stratford Heroes display, available for viewing from November 1st to 15th at Stratford Town Centre and by taking notice of the bus shelters around the Town of Stratford.

A highlight once again this year is the opportunity for children to show veterans their gratitude for the sacrifices they made in serving our country. A table will be located inside Stratford Town Centre with materials and guidance available for children to create hand-made valentines. Each year Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC) invites Canadian schools, individuals and organizations to make Valentines for Vets. VAC, then distributes the valentines to Veterans in long-term care facilities across the country in time for February 14. We hope that many of the children attending the service will take a few minutes on this important day, Remembrance Day, to create a Valentine which will bring joy to a Canadian Veteran on Valentine's Day in 2019.

Veterans and present serving members of the Canadian Forces who wish to be on parade are asked to meet at 10:15 a.m. in the gymnasium at Stratford Town Centre. The ceremony will begin at 10:45 a.m. at Stratford Town Centre, 234 Shakespeare Drive. Refreshments will be available following the ceremony and all are welcome to attend.
