Stratford Recognizes Volunteers
At the Town of Stratford's recent Canada Day celebrations, the Town took time to recognize and thank community residents for their volunteer work and dedication to improving the lives of others and their community.
Debbie Reid was the recipient of the Gail and Neil MacDonald Volunteer of the Year Award. Ms. Reid has been a Stratford resident for the past seven years and was a dedicated volunteer for the duration of the Stratford Skatepark project including the fundraising efforts with "Chase the Ace" and "Pathway of Support". She has also been an active participant on the Stratford's of the World Committee and will be participating in later this year in the reunion taking place in Australia.
She is also currently the President of the Airforce Association of PEI and has been involved with Flags of Remembrance, the annual Poppy Campaign, Legion Ladies Auxiliary, Legion Sick & Visiting Committee as well as being an active participant during Veterans' Week visiting area schools. Her other volunteer efforts include Elder Dog PEI, Children's Wish Foundation, East Coast Music Awards, St. John Ambulance Pet Therapy, and the Cat Action Team, among others.
The Stephen J. MacQuaid Memorial Youth Award was presented to Jaden Bulger. Jaden has been an active member of the Stratford Youth Centre since 2011 and a Youth Executive Member since 2015. In 2017 alone she volunteered over 100 hours through the Stratford Youth Walk-a-Thon, Stratford Winter Fam Fest, Tea Hill canteen, youth dances, food drives, Bowl for Kids Sake, Youth Council Prom Dress Consignment Sale, and many more community events.
Jaden continues to volunteer her time with a variety of community and school activities where in 2016 she was the Stonepark graduating class valedictorian and this past spring was in the Charlottetown Rural High School production of "High School Musical".

Also as part of the Canada Day celebrations, the MacDougall-MacIntyre Senior Volunteer of the Year Award was presented to Pam and David Ing. Both have been very active volunteers in Stratford for many years with various Town committees including Events Committee, Seniors Committee, Stratfords of the World Committee and Diversity & Inclusion Committee as well as helping out with the Stratford Skatepark fundraising initiative "Chase the Ace" and a variety of other community groups and causes.
In presenting, Mayor David Dunphy commented "The Town of Stratford has been extremely lucky to have these residents so thoroughly involved in our community. It is through the efforts of community volunteers like these four individuals that Stratford continues to thrive and grow. On behalf of the Town of Stratford, I thank each of them for their volunteer work and dedication to making our community a great place to live and work".
The Volunteer of the Year, Youth Volunteer of the Year and Senior Volunteer of the Year awards are presented annually at the Town of Stratford's Canada Day celebrations.
